At LCCR our small groups are called Discipleship Groups and we see them as possibly the most important ingredient to living the wide open spacious life. We have many different groups all meeting at different times & places so if you would like to get involved and find out for yourself the life-giving power of these groups please do not hesitate to contact me or one of our other church leaders. This week as I was doing my journaling in preparation for my discipleship group I came across this gem in the book of Psalms. ‘They are like tree’s planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit in each season. Their leaves never wither and they prosper in all they do.’ Psalms 1:3
‘They’ refers to a specific group of people; those that refuse to be influenced by people who reject God’s plan for their life and who instead use God’s word as their road map for life (see verses 1&2). If we aren’t putting God first in every area of our life then these promises obviously cannot be claimed. What jumped out at me in this verse was that if I really am using God’s word to guide me I will produce fruit each season. That means every season not just the good ones! When I put God’s word above my own wisdom I can’t lose! Sometimes we can feel far from God in the bad seasons of life and that our life isn’t going anywhere. If you aren’t using Gods word to guide you then that may be your fate but for the Jesus follower every season brings fruit! In my recent message on the life of Joseph (Never Forget the Dream) I mentioned how Joseph used the bad seasons, the horrific seasons, the you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy seasons to grow him. It was the bad seasons in his life that produced so much fruit he became the best choice to rule the whole of Egypt! What a great promise. If we choose to put Jesus first we can actually make every season a winner. That sounds like a great deal to me. Why not take up the challenge of God’s word today and start enjoying fruit in every season.
