Over the last few weeks in church we have been talking about God’s vision for our finances. Surprisingly most people don’t have much of a plan for their finances other than financial survival and many Christians haven’t stopped to consider that God might have a plan for their finances either. Over many years I have come to realise that not only does God have a plan for my finances, but he wrote it down! In even just a casual reading of the Bible it is easy to pick up the idea that God wants His people blessed in every area of their lives. This year we have discovered that this blessing doesn’t come with the waving of a magic wand but by grace & wisdom. Thankfully all the wisdom we need is in the book. Having a great marriage isn’t easy but it is simple. It’s as simple as two people finding out what God said about marriage and putting it into practise. Not easy sometimes (because I am selfish) but always rewarding. No amount of money in the world could convince me to do my marriage any different than I am doing it right now. I love the results of treating my wife exactly how Jesus said too.
Speaking of money, it astounds me how few people realise God set up a similar idea with finances. It shouldn’t be surprising that God has something to say about it because money is a massive deal in our lives. It dictates where, how and why we work. It dictates our time and our ability to be generous. Why wouldn’t God desire us to have a win in this area? It would be foolish to think God didn’t set down financial principles at the dawn of time that would serve us well throughout history just as he has for marriage and a whole host of other things. I find it mind boggling that people even bother to question that! So, what is God’s plan? I’m glad you asked.
