A number of years ago the Lord took our church on the journey of Creating Space in our lives. The theme in that year (2014) was Margin and I have probably had more feedback on where that teaching series took us than any series before or since. God taught us that the Busy Trap (Being Under satan’s Yoke) was our doing not His and was far from healthy. Since that time we have been more conscious of decluttering and simplifying our lives. The term ‘Creating Space’ calls for a purposeful prioritization of creating unallocated time and finances in our world. To do that means learning to say no to some things giving us the option of saying yes to greater things down the track. How many times have you missed an awesome opportunity because you didn’t have the time or the money? The truth is you had both but squandered it on something less meaningful! Building our best life requires getting control back. People in business understand that real success comes when we spend less time working in the business and more time working on the business. So, it is with our lives. If we feel like mice on a wheel, chances are we are spending no time self-reflecting and prioritizing what really is important and therefore we feel we have no time or money to do the things that we know empower us.
Every area of life is worth building margin in! Our close relationships and our health are two of the most important areas in life. Each has an amazing ability to bring fulfillment and joy. How much time do we spend making sure we have margin in these areas? Margin in a relationship comes when I have invested so positively and purposefully into that relationship that when a storm does come (and they do) I can easily overcome it. Relationship breakdown is a sure sign of no relationship margin. Jesus wants us living our best life. Jesus’ will for us cannot be to constantly feel health concern, financial pressure, relationship strain and time poor. Jesus gives us the ability to live the wide-open spacious life. It is up to us to step into what He has already created for us. If we are serious about building our best life, it’s time to start building in some margin.
